About the Market

Trade between Chile and Argentina has grown at an average rate of 13.8% from 2019 to 2024, driven by an increase in imports from Argentina, which in 2024 are projected to reach a record USD 6,992 million. Conversely, Chile’s exports to Argentina reached USD 856 million in the same year. The main exported products that year were copper wire, avocados, natural gas (due to the reversibility of the northern gas pipeline), and salmon.

Meanwhile, the main imports included oil, natural gas, corn, certain pickup trucks, and soybean meal.

Despite the modest export results in 2023 and 2024, due to Argentina’s unique macroeconomic situation, significant growth was observed during the first months of 2025. In the period of January to April 2025, exports to Argentina increased by 45.7%, according to Customs Service data. In this period, the total export value reached USD 763 million.

During this period, exports to Argentina were concentrated in the following macro sectors: Manufactures (USD 145 million, +26.4%), Agriculture (USD 109 million, +187.3%), Services (USD 26 million, -32.4%), and Fisheries and Aquaculture (USD 21 million, +96.7%).

In the main export macro sector of Manufactures, the most important products by export value were copper wire, which increased by 31.7% to a total of USD 33 million; metal containers with exports of USD 15 million and a 28.6% rise; petroleum derivatives, with shipments of USD 14 million and an increase of 10,422.5%; and plastic raw materials, which grew by 253.9%, with total shipments of USD 11 million.

In 2024, a total of 1,158 companies exported to Argentina, of which 331 are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), representing 28.6% of the total companies, with total exports of USD 71 million. Large companies exported 690 companies to this market, constituting 59.6% of the total, with export shipments worth USD 677 million during 2024.
