Cuba has being taking steps to open up as part of a new economic strategy to generate income. A new retail segment has been created for medium to high-end products, particularly foods, in the dollar market. Private companies have been given the faculties to import and export via state companies in order to facilitate their products and services. People are also being allowed to work for themselves in over 2,000 economic activities, which will stimulate greater movement in foreign trade. The gradual recovery of tourism while controlling the spread of COVID will allow demand in this sector to reactivate.
Meanwhile goods are still being procured for inclusion in the family baskets and for social consumption and these are among Chile’s main exports to Cuba.
