ProChile is committed to being a 100% sustainable institution

14/10/2021
With the mission of contributing to the sustainable development of Chile and seeking alliances in the public-private sphere for the promotion and incorporation of sustainability as a vector of competitiveness in the internationalization of the exportable supply, ProChile launched its Sustainability Policy, thus becoming one of the first public institutions in the country to advance in this area.

This is a framework for action to incorporate sustainability into institutional strategic management, enabling it to operate in line with global climate objectives. At the same time, it establishes lines of work with ProChile's beneficiary companies, understanding that today a sustainable exporting company is an opportunity and a necessity that will help to better withstand crises, reduce risks and achieve benefits in commercial, social and environmental relations.

"The launch of our Sustainability Policy is the first step on a gradual path that seeks to incorporate into our institutional DNA a new way of thinking and doing our work. As an institution, this policy encourages us to assume commitments and goals in the short, medium and long term to incorporate sustainable development into our daily work, while providing us with a general framework to achieve these objectives," says ProChile's Director General, Jorge O'Ryan.

Creating ProChile's first Sustainability Policy reflects the commitment to become a more responsible institution committed to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the United Nations. All this under an approach that incorporates environmental, social and governance criteria as cross-cutting elements in its strategic management.

ProChile's Sustainability Policy is the result of a strategy that began a year ago with the creation of the Sustainability Department and continued with an in-depth diagnosis of the state of the art at the global level and a collection of international best practices. This Policy is the result of a participatory process that articulates the visions of different actors from the public, private and organized civil society sectors that are relevant in the field of exports of Chile's sustainable supply.

Additionally, it was presented and validated by an Advisory Council that brings together 11 representatives with recognized leadership in sustainability, in order to put ProChile at the forefront in this type of initiatives and consolidate the participatory process, the inter-institutional commitment and the linkage with the different sectors.

"The launch of ProChile's Sustainability Policy is an essential factor in moving towards an international trade model that allows national companies to respond to the demands of different markets. It allows ProChile to move forward to keep up with the demands of consumers, suppliers and standards in sustainability matters and contribute to the country's commitments to sustainable development. This Policy is structured in 5 pillars and 18 initiatives in the short, medium and long term", emphasizes Catalina Cuevas, Head of ProChile's Sustainability Department.

Through its 56 trade offices around the world, ProChile has noticed the changes in consumer trends, where sustainability is no longer a fashion, but a carrier of competitiveness. In this context, sustainability is fundamental for Chile to position itself at the forefront among its competitors. It is an added value that provides greater competitiveness at the national level.
