After two years of preparations, Chilean company
Agromarín is now an official provider of Magellanic lamb for
Whole Foods Market. Mario Marín Kuzmanic, general manager of Agromarín, expressed his satisfaction with the good reception of this first shipment for WFM: "They were able to visit our plant last February and joined us as suppliers, because they were able to see how these lambs are raised and that the quality of our meat is excellent. We’re talking about animals fed with
natural grasslands, no fertilizers, chemicals or antibiotics".Agromarín's exports to the United States began in 2013, however, this is the first time they entered the Whole Foods Market Chain. "The product is cooled, portioned and exported by air, being oriented to a customer who is willing to pay for high quality", added Agromarín’s manager.
Agromarín’s world-class processing plant was awarded in 2008 with the
New Zealand Excellence Engineering Award in the Food and Bioprocesses category. It is important to note that lamb meat is an excellent source of high-quality protein. It takes 100 grams of lean lamb meat, containing only 200 calories, to meet half of the protein daily needs. It is also an excellent source of minerals.
The Magellan Region is the largest producer of sheep meat in Chile and currently exports mainly to
Europe, North America and China.
