Expo Osaka 2025: ProChile and the city of Osaka sign cooperation agreement to strengthen economic and innovation ecosystems

Osaka City and ProChile signs MoU

The alliance seeks to promote strategic sectors such as technology, agri-food, energy, and tourism, as well as to foster the startup ecosystem between Chile and Japan.

As part of Chile's participation in Expo Osaka 2025, ProChile and the City of Osaka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a partnership of friendship and cooperation aimed at economic development and the startup ecosystem in both countries.

The main objective of the agreement is to promote economic exchanges in areas of mutual interest, with a special emphasis on the sectors of Technology and Innovation, Agri-food, Energy and Sustainability, and Tourism. In addition, the MoU contemplates the promotion of collaborations between the startup ecosystems of Chile and Osaka, facilitating access to networks, knowledge, and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs in both countries.

The topics addressed in this agreement reflect the strategic areas that Chile promoted in its participation in Expo Osaka 2025, where the national pavilion sought to position the country as a leader in energy transition, sustainable tourism, a global power in food exports, and a hub of innovation in the Southern Cone.

The agreement was signed by Nury Disegni, Commercial Attaché for ProChile in Japan, and Keiji Okamoto, Director General of the Osaka Economic Strategy Office.

“The signing of this agreement with the City of Osaka opens new doors for Chilean companies to access the Japanese market with greater depth and dynamism. By establishing channels of collaboration in strategic sectors such as innovation, agri-food, energy, and technology, we are creating concrete conditions for our exports to diversify and position themselves with greater added value in Japan,” explains Nury Disegni, Commercial Director of ProChile in Japan.

Chile's exports to Japan between January and August 2025, according to ProChile's Market Intelligence Department with data from the National Customs Service, show that the Asian country ranked as the fourth destination for non-copper and non-lithium national exports, with amounts totaling US$1.72 billion.

Noteworthy are exports of salmon and trout (US$641 million, +2.1% compared to the same period in 2024); bottled wine (US$29 million, +5.4% compared to 2024); and services (US$19 million, unchanged from 2024).
