Chilean sports take over Expo Osaka 2025 with a week dedicated to physical activity and inclusión

During Sports Week, the country will highlight its experience in organizing major sporting events and the role of sport as a tool for social transformation at the world fair.

The Chilean pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025 will host Sports Week, an initiative led by the Chilean Ministry of Sports that aims to highlight the country's role as a host of major international sporting events and as a promoter of sport as a tool for inclusion, health, and development.

The Chilean delegation will be led by Minister of Sport Jaime Pizarro (Retired football player and 1991 Copa Libertadores winner) and will include prominent national athletes such as Greco-Roman wrestler Yasmani Acosta (silver medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics and winner of the 2024 National Sports Award), as well as representatives of Team Chile at the Special Olympics, Gonzalo Escobar and Teresita Lira, gold medalists in the snowboarding category at the Special Olympics Winter Games held in Turin in March.

During this week, Chile will showcase its world-class sports infrastructure, such as the National Stadium Park, and its recent experience in organizing the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago.

In addition, the portfolio of events to be held in the coming years will be presented, including the Women's Americup Basketball Tournament, the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the Track Cycling World Championships, the 2025 Youth Parapan American Games, and the 2027 Special Olympics World Games.

"Our goal is to showcase Chile's experience in organizing sporting events, notably the 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago, which involved a complete renovation of the sports infrastructure at the National Stadium Park and allowed us to host a series of events that will take place in 2025, including the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Youth Parapan American Games. In turn, we managed to secure Santiago as the host city for the Special Olympics World Games in 2027," said Jaime Pizarro, Minister of Sport.

"The promotion of Chilean sport at Expo Osaka is a unique opportunity to show the world how sport can be a tool to save lives, promote inclusion, and project a modern, active image of the country that is committed to the well-being of its people. Chile has proven that it can organize high-level sporting events with international standards, and this week is a showcase to share that experience with Japan and the world," said Paulina Nazal, Chile's General Commissioner for Expo Osaka 2025.
