Chile seeks to attract Japanese and other tourists from Expo Osaka 2025

During Tourism Week, the Chilean Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo will become a platform to showcase the diversity, sustainability, and richness of our country's tourism experiences.

As part of the Osaka World Expo 2025, the Chilean pavilion will host Tourism Week (June 19-25) in its national pavilion, with a program that seeks to position Chile as a diverse, sustainable destination connected to global tourism trends. Through a narrative that combines nature, culture, gastronomy, and hospitality, our country presents itself as an attractive alternative for Japanese and international travelers.

The national delegation will be led by the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo, who will be accompanied by the National Director of Sernatur , Cristóbal Benitez , and other tourism organizations and companies such as Turavion , Patagonia Camp, Estancia Cerro Guido, Rapa Nui Chamber of Tourism , and the Taha Tai Hotel .

“Expo Osaka is a unique showcase to show the world what we are: a diverse, sustainable country full of authentic experiences. We know that Japanese tourists deeply value nature, culture, and hospitality, and that is precisely what Chile has to offer. In 2024, we will receive more than 10,000 visitors from Japan, and although we are still below pre-pandemic levels, this event is key to strengthening that historic bond and projecting our tourism to the Asia-Pacific region with identity, innovation, and sustainability,” comments Undersecretary Pardo.

In turn, Cristóbal Benítez, National Director of Sernatur , says that “Expo Osaka 2025 will be a highly relevant window to showcase the richness and diversity of the national tourism offering during Tourism Week. We will have a networking space to present our destinations and tourism products to key players in the Japanese market, with which we hope to captivate travel agencies, tour operators, and the general public, showing them the many attractions that Chile has to offer. This Expo showcase will boost tourist arrivals and contribute to the sustainable growth of our sector.”

Additionally, the delegation will be joined by Javier Humire , ProChile 's Regional Director in Arica-Parinacota, who will travel with six tour operators and tourism entrepreneurs selected through a call for proposals under the agreement between the Regional Government and ProChile called "Internationalization with a Gender Perspective for MSMEs in Arica and Parinacota." The companies traveling to Osaka are Aventura Putre York; Norte Outdoor ; Lynntour Arica; Arica Samaña Hotel; Qiri ; and Culmi .

“Tourism is a powerful tool for territorial development, economic diversification, and Chile's international reach. At ProChile , we work with the Undersecretariat of Tourism, Sernatur , regional associations, and governments to support the internationalization of Chilean companies with high potential for serving foreign tourists, and we provide training so these companies can compete successfully. In this context, Expo Osaka provides us with an exceptional showcase to showcase our offerings to the world, build relationships with international operators, and position Chile as a reliable, innovative, and sustainable destination,” said Ignacio Fernández, General Director of ProChile .

Mapping and networking events with tour operators
During Tourism Week, the Chilean pavilion will offer a comprehensive experience showcasing Chile. There will be trivia, photo booths so people can take photos with Chilean landscapes, and augmented reality experiences. In addition, there will be a contest run by Chile Travel to win a ticket to Chile.

mapping projected on a side wall of the pavilion will explore landscapes, destinations, gastronomy, and culture along the country's main tourist routes. This exhibition will be curated by the company Delight. Lab , which was shown in January of this year in front of La Moneda Palace for the launch of the summer season.

In addition, training sessions will be held for travel agents, tour operators, and the Japanese public, with the goal of updating their knowledge of Chilean tourism, generating new business partnerships, and encouraging the flow of visitors to the country.

According to figures from the Undersecretary of Tourism and the National Tourism Service, more than 5 million tourists arrived in Chile in 2024, a record number for the country. If we consider only Japanese tourists, the number reached 10,752 in 2024.
