During Logistics Week, the Chile Pavilion will highlight the innovation and competitiveness of its logistics services to strengthen trade with Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
Chile has an extensive coastline on the Pacific Ocean, which makes it a key point for trade with countries in Asia, Oceania and the west coast of America. Highlighting this attribute is one of the objectives of the Logistics Week at Expo Osaka 2025, which seeks to position Chile as a strategic hub in the South Pacific.
Under the slogan "Chile, a country on the move: logistics services that connect", this week will include a delegation made up of the Undersecretary of Transport, Jorge Daza; the Governor of the Antofagasta Region, Ricardo Díaz, and representatives of institutions and associations such as the State Railway Company (EFE), the Antofagasta Port Company, Conecta Logística, the Antofagasta International Terminal and SICEX of the Ministry of Finance, among others.
"Chile's presence at Expo Osaka 2025, particularly through the Undersecretariat of Transport, will allow us to strengthen our country's image, strengthen ties and open opportunities for economic, commercial and technological exchange with Japan and the Asia Pacific in general. Especially important is the opportunity that this great international showcase represents to show our port and railway projects, the innovation and capacity of our logistics systems and the strength and institutional trust that Chile offers, boosting business opportunities related to these matters and foreign trade", said the Undersecretary of Transportation, Jorge Daza.
With more than 92 thousand companies operating in the sector, employing more than 250 thousand people, Chile has consolidated a specialized offer by macro-zones in the north and south of the country, with key technological poles in Santiago and Valparaíso. Thus, this mission will be attended by three logistics companies from Antofagasta (Corlog, Tport and Tmetal) and one from Tarapacá (Finisterra), which were selected by ProChile with regional funds from each governorate.
"Expo Osaka 2025 is an exceptional platform to show that Chile not only exports quality products, but also has a world-class logistics infrastructure and services, presenting a modern, sustainable and highly competitive proposal, aligned with the challenges of global trade. In 2024 we had a record export of services for US$2,472 million, 14.8% more than the previous year, where logistics services accounted for nearly US$50 million. We want this figure to continue to increase, especially to Japan and Asia-Pacific, a large area with which we want to continue increasing our trade in goods and services," said Ignacio Fernández, CEO of ProChile.
Chile is a leading country in this area, highlighting its highly developed port infrastructure and multimodal connectivity. In terms of the importance of logistics for Chile, a study developed by Conecta Logística and the Central Bank indicated that it represents 4.1% of GDP, where the country is developing relevant initiatives such as the bioceanic corridor project, with 2,400 km of extension and which seeks to connect the center-west of Brazil with the ports of northern Chile, and the expansion of ports in Valparaiso and San Antonio. Among the week's activities at Expo Osaka 2025, a "Ports Seminar" will be held in the Chilean pavilion, where the particularities of this industry will be presented and a sample of logistical advances in the region of Antofagasta will be shown.
In addition, the agenda will be complemented with technical visits to the ports of Tokyo and Osaka, the Japan Freight Railway Company and the Mitsubishi factory. A seminar will also be held in Tokyo to exchange experiences in the logistics sector between the two countries.
Finally, Valparaiso-born artist Pascuala Ilabaca will perform at the Chile Pavilion and at the Expo site this week to highlight how Chilean ports are key to logistics and to the artistic and cultural development of cities.
