Chile showcases its excellence in seafood products at Expo Osaka 2025

During Sea Week, the Chile Pavilion will be a showcase for innovation, sustainability, and flavor, highlighting the country as a world leader in responsible aquaculture.

From June 2 to 6, Chile will celebrate Sea Week at its pavilion at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, a key opportunity to position the country as a reliable supplier of seafood and sustainable aquaculture solutions.

With a coastline of more than 6,400 kilometers—connecting with Japan via the Pacific Ocean—and an industry recognized for its innovation and environmental commitment, Chile arrives in Japan with a proposal that combines flavor and sustainability.

The delegation will be made up of associations such as the “Aquaculture Innovation Club” and the “Sea Urchin Trade Association,” as well as salmon companies (from the Salmon Chile and Salmon Council associations).

"Japan is a strategic partner for Chile in the field of seafood products. Expo Osaka gives us a unique opportunity to showcase the quality, traceability, and sustainability of our export offerings. Products such as salmon, sea urchins, and mussels not only represent the best of our marine biodiversity, but also the efforts of an industry that has known how to innovate responsibly. We want the world to know Chile as a country that supplies nutritious food to markets worldwide while caring for its oceans," said Paulina Nazal, Chile's General Commissioner for Expo Osaka 2025.

Chile is the world's leading exporter of salmon, horse mackerel, and mussels, and in Japan it is a global supplier of salmon, sea urchins, and fish oils.

Japan is the second largest destination market for the Chilean fishing and aquaculture sector, with exports worth US$1.24 billion in 2024, according to ProChile, based on figures from the Chilean National Customs Service.

The country is the world's second largest producer of salmon, and Japan is the second largest market for this product, accounting for 16% of total salmon exports in 2024 (about US$1.07 billion).

In addition, Chile is the main exporter of sea urchins to Japan, with 85% of exports going to Japan last year (around US$50 million).

Chile's presence at Expo Osaka also stands out for its focus on the blue economy and the participation of coastal communities, with the aim of strengthening ties with the Japanese aquaculture ecosystem, attracting investment, and promoting strategic alliances in one of the world's most demanding markets.

The pavilion's program includes immersive experiences with marine wildlife sounds and tastings of iconic products such as salmon, sea urchins, and mussels. In addition, a seminar on the topic will be held in Tokyo, along with visits to aquaculture centers in the vicinity.

Sea Week is part of Chile's strategy to position itself as a key player in building a healthier, more resilient, and sustainable global food system. Under the theme “Saving Lives,” Chile provides healthy foods rich in omega-3, cultivated using responsible practices that protect the oceans and improve people's quality of life.
