During Meat and Milk Week, Chile's pavilion at the World Expo became a showcase for promoting the country's sustainability and agri-food quality.
Chile celebrated Meat and Milk Week at the Expo Osaka 2025 pavilion, where it sought to position the country as a global benchmark in sustainable agricultural production.
Under the title “Agricultural and Livestock Sustainability,” this week sought to show how the Chilean meat and dairy industry combines tradition, innovation, and environmental commitment to offer high-quality and safe food, in line with “Designing the Society of the Future,” the slogan of the 2025 World Expo, and with “Saving Lives,” which is the sector where the Chilean pavilion is located.
A delegation composed of Daniela Acuña, National Deputy Director of ODEPA; Nury Disegni, Commercial Attaché of ProChile in Japan; Juan Carlos Domínguez, President of Chilecarne; Rafael Lecaros, General Manager of Faenacar; and Sebastián Varas, Senior Export Manager at Colun, participated in the event.
Japan is the second largest destination for Chilean meat in the world, with a total of US$222 million in 2024, 16% more than the previous year, according to ProChile figures based on the National Customs Service. Ninety-seven percent of the total exported corresponds to pork (US$216 million), where Chile is the third largest exporter of this product in the world. The other product is beef, with US$5 million in 2024, an increase of 39.4%.
In the dairy sector, our country has increased its presence with products such as whey, yogurt, and cheese. In 2024, Chile's exports to Japan of whey, yogurt, dairy pastes, among other products, amounted to US$265,000 according to ProChile, based on the National Customs Service.
"Expo Osaka is a strategic showcase to show the world Chile's commitment to sustainable, safe, and quality food production. Chilean meats and cheeses not only reflect the efforts of an industry that has innovated to meet global standards. Japan is an important partner for our exports, particularly for meat and dairy products. That is why this week is an opportunity to strengthen those shipments and the commercial relationship," said Ignacio Fernández, Director General of ProChile.
The Chilean pavilion offered an experience that included tastings of sheep (pork), beef, and cheese, complemented by musical performances by the Chilean group “BomboDiablo y La Flor del Romero,” an adaptation of the band “Familia Bombo Trio,” which fuses the bombochinchín with instruments such as guitar, accordion, double bass, and vocals, integrating elements of cueca, poetry, and dance into a contemporary stage performance.
The dishes were prepared with Chilean olive oil, specifically ICONO By MORE oil, which has won awards in Japan in competitions such as the “JOOTA Awards Tokyo 2024” and “RAKUTEN N1 Japan 2024.”
