Chile celebrates National Day at Expo Osaka 2025 with President Boric leading a large official delegation and major cultural event

On May 12, there will be several activities at the World Expo site to promote culture and enhance bilateral and commercial relations between Japan and Chile.

A day dedicated to Chile will be celebrated on May 12, the National Day at the Universal Exposition 2025. The National Days are days of tribute to the presence of countries and international organizations at the Expo. And Chile will be displaying a full cultural, artistic and business program.

Chile's National Day will have a large public-private delegation - headed by President Gabriel Boric Font- and a lineup of national artists that seeks to show the Japanese and international public, the artistic diversity that exists in the country.

“Chile's National Day is one of the iconic activities that our country has at Expo Osaka 2025 and we are proud that we have such a large delegation that represents us both commercially, diplomatically and culturally,” says Chile's Commissioner General for Expo Osaka 2025, Paulina Nazal.

Director General of ProChile, Ignacio Fernandez, said that “we hope that this event will serve to further enhance Chile's image in Japan, strengthening the export of products to this country, not only traditional commodities, salmon, wine and agricultural products, but also services related to innovation, clean energy and creative industries”.

Agenda for the day
May 12 will begin at 11:00 with an official ceremony at the National Day Hall, where there will be speeches by authorities from both countries, including a speech by President Gabriel Boric Font. After the ceremony, a Chilean cultural show will be performed by the internationally recognized Rapa Nui pianist Mahani Teave.

The official delegation will attend an official lunch offered by the organizers, followed by a protocol visit to the Japanese pavilion and the Chilean pavilion. The Chilean pavilion features the project “Makün: The Mantle of Chile”, a spectacular textile woven by 200 Mapuche craftswomen from 4 communities of the Araucanía and Bíobio regions, in the south of Chile. An official ceremony will be held at the Chile Pavilion, located in the “Saving Lives” area of the Expo.

Then, at 15:00, a parade will begin - led by the Conmoción Band and “Chiri-Chan”, the official mascot of Chile at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan - underneath the Expo's Great Wooden Ring, which will invite people to Chile's “Viaje Infinito (endless journey)” show, featuring Congreso, illusionist Jean Paul Olhaberry and Bafona. This show will start at 16:00 pm and will last until 7:30 pm.

In parallel, in a pop up inside the Expo site, other artists such as Karcocha, the organ grinders and chinchineros, will be performing during the afternoon of that day (from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm)

Chile will be the 20th participant to celebrate its National Day at Expo Osaka 2025 and the second Latin American country to do so.
