Chile is a food exporter internationally recognized for the quality of its products and the efficiency of its agro-industrial industry, made up of innovative entrepreneurs and professionals always looking for processes’ and final products’ improvements.
This long and narrow South American country is the world’s leading exporter of fresh grapes, fresh blueberries, fresh salmon fillets, fresh cherries, dehydrated apples, toasted malt, mussels, frozen salmon fillets, frozen sea urchin roes, and occupies the first three places in products such as prunes, raisins, walnuts, shelled walnuts, among others.
In recent years, Chile, through its Trade Commission in Dubai, has implemented a powerful commercial deepening strategy in the United Arab Emirates through strategic alliances and direct contact with the sector’s authorities to the new food products’ phytosanitary compliance. It has also developed a strong promotion agenda to continue making known the wide exportable Chilean supply as diversify and introduce new products to the basket of goods purchased by the UAE.
All this effort has paid off. The non-copper shipments from Chile to the UAE grew by 42% in 2017, highlighted by the increment in exports of nuts (270%), almonds (241%), salmon (7%), Chilean seabass (43%), avocados (1122%), prunes (18%), wines (44%), among others. And in 2017 the recent sanitary certificate for the entry of Chilean honey to the UAE was agreed.
In all of these subsectors, the Trade Commission in Dubai has carried out a thorough work with the authorities as with local importers and Chilean exporters interested in selling their products in the market. All this work has contributed to, along with the responsible work of the business sector, position Chile as the third South American exporting economy to the UAE.
Many of these products will be present in Gulfood 2018, represented by a delegation of 35 Chilean companies from the Agribusiness sector, exporters of nuts, dehydrated plums, raisins, almonds, juices, oats and tomato paste. These products are characterized by their high quality and their contribution to people’s health, since they have high levels of antioxidants, fibers and nutrients preferred by the most demanding consumers.
On this occasion, the director of the Chilean Trade Promotion Agency, ProChile, Alejandro Buvinic, will accompany the exhibiting companies at Gulfood, and he will have a strong agenda in Dubai to continue fostering the trade between both countries, given the relevance of Dubai as a re-exporter hub for the entire region. To that end, he will meet representatives of Dubai Exports and Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, ESMA, in order to agree the authorization for Chilean bottled water to the UAE.
